Zaptec granted patent for charging technology: "It makes us impossible to copy"
“This is a major milestone for us. The approval reinforces Zaptec’s reliability and makes our smart charging technologyimpossible to replicate,” says Peter Bardenfleth-Hansen, CEO of Zaptec, a leading EV charger manufacturer.
Optimising EV Charging Infrastructure
The patented technology allows for more cost-effective EV charger installations in large-scale facilities, improving charging speed and power utilisation.
“It’s called dynamic phase balancing, meaning we efficiently use all three power conductors. If one is overloaded, the system automatically switches to another. Think of it as a bar with three taps—if one runs dry, you simply switch to another,” explains Bardenfleth-Hansen.
The European Patent Office has issued the patent, which is now valid across all European countries. Additionally, it has been approved in China and Japan, reinforcing Zaptec’s global expansion.

A Competitive Advantage in the EV Charging Market
“This patent gives us a strong competitive edge in Europe. It highlights the superior quality of our technology and cements Zaptec’s role as a leader in EV infrastructure development. More importantly, it allows us to support the rapid expansion of the EV charging network, even in areas with limited power availability,” says Bardenfleth-Hansen.
According to the CEO, the technology enables EV charging stations to make more efficient use of existing power grids, supporting the growth of electric vehicles without straining the infrastructure.
“Electricity is unique—it must be used as it is produced and cannot be stored. Expanding the power supply for large buildings, whether for home EV charging or business EV charging, is costly and time-consuming. Our patented solution ensures that all available power is used efficiently, without requiring additional power supply to the building,” he adds.
This means businesses and residential buildings can install as many EV charging points as needed without worrying about future energy constraints. It also reduces costs for residents and users, eliminating the need for expensive grid upgrades.
Accelerating the EV Charging Revolution
“This innovation helps accelerate EV infrastructure development, which is essential for achieving global CO2 reductions. By making EV charging more accessible and cost-efficient, we contribute to a more sustainable future.”
