  1. Introduction

Zaptec AS (hereinafter referred to as “Zaptec”) is committed to maintaining customer privacy. These guidelines describe how we process personal information. This privacy policy describes how we collect and use personal data where Zaptec is the data controller or where we refer to the applicability of this policy. “Personal data” means information relating to you or another identifiable individual.

2. Controller

The CEO of Zaptec is the controller of the data and determines the purpose of processing personal data. The controller may, however, delegate tasks to subordinates and place the day-to-day responsibility for processing personal data at the level required for compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Personal Data Act and the provisions of this policy.

3. Collection and use of personal data

Zaptec’s processing of personal data is based either on performance of a contract or our legitimate interests.  The personal data that we collect will only be used for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy. Zaptec is obliged to ensure that the personal data that are processed are not used subsequently for purposes that are incompatible with the original purpose of the collection, unless the customer consents.

The personal data we collect and use shall be sufficient and relevant for the purpose of the processing and be correct and up to date.

3.1 Registering and using ZapCloud

When you create a ZapCloud user account and use ZapCloud we store and collect the information you provide to us. This information includes;

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Phone number (optional)
  • Location information and language
  • Charge history

Personal data are processed in connection with the functionality of ZapCloud. This is required for a user to verify identification of the user both when creating the profile and when logging in to use the profile. Personal data is also used for Zaptec to be in touch with you for customer support if necessary.

Zaptec processes your charge history. This processing is necessary in order to fulfil our obligation to you to charge on chargers and installations requiring internal authentication, to administrate installations and charging stations, to see charge history for an installation, to see your own charge history and to login to the app. The app uses same login and database as ZapCloud.

3.2 Purchase

When you buy a product or a service from Zaptec, we register following information;

  • Name
  • Billing address
  • Payment details
  • Mobile number (Optional)
  • Email address
  • Purchase history
  • Product type and serial number

When you purchase a product or service from Zaptec your personal data is processed so that we can handle your order, finalise and execute the transaction, and send invoices. Purchase history is stored to verify any rights to guarantees.

3.3 Support request

When you contact our support team we may collect personal data including;

  • Costumer name
  • Phone number
  • Address
  • Email address
  • Location
  • Diagnostic data and sensor readings

By using these personal data Zaptec will be able to provide customised customer support and improve its services to customers by compelling data based on usage, error messages etc.

3.5 Customer contact

When you contact Zaptec by email or chat we may collect the following personal data:


Email address

Personal data from enquiries and contact with a customer is used to commercial communications and to follow-up of complaints. Zaptec may use the email address of an existing customer to provide information about Zaptec’s services and products.

4. Sharing of personal data

Your user account and any personally identifiable data will never be shared with unauthorized external parties. Your usage data (charge sessions) may be shared with authorized external parties or if required by national legislation.

4.1 External parties

4.1.1 Installation owners

Your charge history on charging stations powered by Zaptec are visible to users with owner role for the charging stations. These Owners can view and export (download) usage data for their charging stations. Usage data may contain personal information like your email address, name, user ID and used charge cards. Usage data may be used by owners to, but not limited to, invoicing, monitoring or statistical purposes. Zaptec require that owners handle exported data with care, and to delete the data when it is no longer required. Zaptec assumes no responsibility for the owners use of this data. Please contact your installation owner if you would like information on how exported usage data is used and managed.

4.2 Storing of data – Microsoft Azure

Zaptec uses Microsoft Azure’s European regions for all our services and storage. All communication to and from Azure is encrypted.

5. Storing personal data

Your personal information is stored in Azure SQL until the account is deleted. . Your charge history is permanently associated with your user account. If you change your personal information or request your profile to be erased, your modified information may be available in database backups up to for 5 weeks until the backup retention period is elapsed.

Charge point observations are permanently stored to Azure Table Storage.

Your email address, IP-address and other non-personal information is written to web server log files. These logs are used to identify bugs, potential security threats and track down abuse. Logs may be stored for up to 5 weeks before being permanently deleted.

6. Your rights

You have a right to know what personal data Zaptec holds about you, and to access it. You have a right to have incomplete, incorrect, unnecessary or outdated personal data updated. You have the right to request that your personal data be erased, and to obtain a copy of our data in a machine-readable format. You have the right to object to or restrict processing in certain circumstances, such as where you believe the data is inaccurate or the processing activity is unlawful

7. Complaints

You have a right to complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority if you consider that we have breached the data protection legislation, but we encourage you to contact us before filing such complaint.

8. Changes to this privacy policy

We periodically need to update this privacy statement to provide you with accurate information about how we process personal information. If there are significant changes, we will inform you separately. You agree to the new privacy statement by continuing to use Zaptec’s products and services.
